Wintertime on the Boardwalk - Work In Progress - Almost Done

Here's the latest version of the Boardwalk.  I still have a few more characters and moments to add as well as one final building design.  Otherwise, it's on to the lighting stage.

A few other things... I hope you've been enjoying the October Vampyr a Day series on my Tumblr or Instagram pages.  And if you are in the Los Angeles area and thought about attending my solo show, I apologize for having to move it from this weekend.  I am looking to reschedule for December.

Art Show Time!

I'll be having my first solo gallery showing this October - well sort of.  Decided to do it at my favorite wine bar in the neighborhood since the last gallery I worked with took half my money and 4 years to pay me.  Hopefully this leads to better galleries in the future.  If you live in the Los Angeles area, please come by and say hello.  Would love to meet the people that look at and enjoy my art.

New Web Page and Other Stuff

For those of you that have been following me here over the last few years as well as those that randomly pop by, I very much appreciate it.  I wanted to let everyone know that I have a new web site up that puts things into a little more order.  And it includes the other various platforms where I am showcasing my work.

sharackula.com

I will continue to post here as well- I know each person likes a different platform for viewing things on the interwebs.

Comments and critiques are welcome as usual.  More work to come soon!

Steel Pier

Finishing up on the Boardwalk Painting has required many buildings and details.  Here's a glimpse of one of the final buildings, based off of the Steel Pier from the 1920's.

Moonrise Kingdom Screen Shot Study

I was flicking through channels and caught Moonrise Kingdom playing.  I watched for about five minutes before this frame came up and knew I needed to try and paint it.

I don't think i would have ever thought of these colors on my own.  Having fun with a new brush in Photoshop to try and mimic it.

Earlier Tonight

This is a view from my office window.  I rarely get to see this view since I live next to a school and the children are outside on recess for most of the day acting like horrible tiny people.  But this evening, I decided to open the windows up to paint this yellow house I love so much.  Digital paint in Photoshop CS6.

Happy Mother's Day Card 2013

There's a bunch of yucca trees around the property and I love how saturated the leaves get in the afternoon sun.  When the little white flowers bloom, hummingbirds are never far behind.  Done in Photoshop CS6 and turned into sepia tones below.

Babette's Sketchbook Notes

Babette's was a supper and night club on the Boardwalk.  The interior bar was shaped like an old river boat.  Since I am unable to show the interiors in this painting, I decided to bring the idea out front.

Part of the Process - Wintertime on the Boardwalk, Late 1920's

From traditional mediums - Pilot Hi Tec C and Tria Markers to digital paint - Photoshop CS6.  Next I'll add in the bricks, stones, woods and all the other little details.  Finally, I'll paint in the lighting which really brings life into the piece.

Sorry for Some Deleted Comments

My apologies to the last 50 people who have left me comments.  I mistakenly deleted them this morning and once you do that, Blogger has no way of retrieving them.  I always appreciate the time you make to look at the blog, let alone comment.  So please keep the comments and critiques coming.

Thanks,
Sharack

Some More Old Man and the Sea

Updated version of Santiago Rests.  When he wakes, he will embark on his journey out to sea.

Santiago Lives!  A work in progress for the last shot of the book.  Manolin, after seeing Santiago's wrecked skiff and fully devoured Marlin, runs up to Santiago's shack to see him resting peacefully in bed.

House in the Franklin Hills on Franklin Ave

This is another house in the neighborhood.  I love the use of all the different materials.  Sat outside and sketched for an hour, then brought back and colored in Photoshop. I tried a different digital painting technique using only the Lasso Tool and Paint Bucket.

Along the AC Boardwalk,1927 - Current Painting in Progress

So that pre-work for the 1920's has led to this layout - still very much in progress.  The characters are all 'stand-ins' from my last painting just to start to see how the area is going to look with lit characters.  Pretty excited to continue to develop this one.

House on Rowena, Los Feliz

Been spending a lot of time working digitally in the studio.  Finally had some free time to sketch the other day before the rains came.  This is a super fun house in the neighborhood - look at them roof lines.  Really fun to draw.

Contest Submission - Updated

One of my favorite house DJ's, Sasha, is having a contest for future label artwork.  It's being run through Talent House.  My submission was conceived, inked and colored in Photoshop over the course of 12 hours.  If you think it deserves your vote, please follow the link below.  Thanks!

UPDATE: Thanks to everyone (if anyone) that took the time to vote.  My entry did not win the popular vote, but it did win the grand prize, personally picked by the DJ himself!  I am completely honored and excited to have be given this opportunity to work with one of the best in his field.
